Every year, interest in the Culinary Challenge on campus increases and competition gets fiercer. On Dec. 13, six chefs gathered in the McDonel Hall Dining Room to vie for the opportunity to represent MSU at the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) Midwest Regional Conference. Chef Jonathan Hughes from South Neighborhood won the competition, creating a Seared Pork Loin Chop with Creamed Swiss Chard and Cherry Sweet Potato Hash with Granny Smith Apples. Bone-in pork loin is the required protein for this year’s competition, and chefs from across the region will display their creativity and strive for the opportunity to advance to the national Culinary Challenge on Sunday, March 19 in Iowa City. The front-runner of the Culinary Challenge will compete against other regional winners on Thursday, July 13 at the NACUFS National Conference.
