Let's Meet Your Chef:
Sous Chef, River Trail Neighborhood
What experience do you bring to the table?
I started here at Michigan State University where I studied dietetics. I went on to Le Cordon Bleu in Los Angeles, Calif., where I graduated with highest honors from their culinary program. While in Los Angeles, I worked with the Hard Rock Café to help open their brand new Hollywood location. It was there that I had the pleasure of cooking for celebrities including Ringo Starr, Cher, Jennifer Lopez, Adele and many more. The west coast just wasn’t for me so I came back here to my home state where I worked as the kitchen manager at a local catering company.
What are your favorite foods to cook?
I love cooking anything Italian. At home, I make my own pasta and sauces from scratch and in the summer I like to keep a little herb garden so I can garnish my pasta with fresh basil.
Why do you love being a chef?
Food is my passion in life! I love experimenting with different flavors and combinations of ingredients. It’s a field that is constantly changing, someone is always coming up with new ideas and there’s always something I haven’t tried.
How do you serve social responsibility on campus?
We try our best to make sure that we recycle everything we can from packaging to food waste. Our staff and students do an awesome job of pitching in and putting things in the blue recycle bins and food waste containers. I think it’s great when I have members of my team coming to me saying, “we have too many trash cans in the kitchen, we need more of those blue bins!”
What is the best thing about being a Spartan?
When you become a Spartan you become a part of a community that stretches around the globe. You can be proud of fellow Spartans past and those to come who have and will achieve so many awesome things. It’s so much bigger than sports titles and buildings. I love what MSU stands for and I am proud to bleed green!
